The buzz around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
